Shoyeido Incense: Mica Burning Plate

A$29.00

Thin sheets of mica, a translucent silicate mineral, have been used in Japan for hundreds of years for the purpose of heating - rather than burning - raw aromatics wood chips and kneaded incense. Use our wire-wrapped mica plates with Square Charcoal and White Ash to gently raise the temperature of sumptuous Palo Santo Wood Chips, resin or kneaded incense so that a rich inner aroma is released.

Mica Plate, approx. 2.2cm ( 7/8") square

Combine with White Ash, Square Charcoal A or Square Charcoal B Use with aromatic wood chips and granules, Kneaded Incense, Pressed Incense

How to use: Fill a ceramic incense holder with White Ash and tamp the ash down to create a level bed. Place the charcoal in the middle of the ash and light the block around the edge. Wait for the charcoal to start burning, a fine grey ash will develop, carefully place the Mica Plate onto the charcoal using the small tongs. The wood chips etc can then be placed on the plate and will begin slow burning. Once the charcoal and incense has been used up remove the Mica Plate and stir their ash into the White Ash. The mica can be cleaned if necessary with warm soap water.
