Yahae (Japan): Indigo 'Garabou' Slipper Socks
Yahae (Japan): Indigo 'Garabou' Slipper Socks
These special socks are made of indigo-dyed yarn and the yarn spun using the unique Japanese spinning method known as "garabou". As they are knitted to give a less tightening, soft fit, they are perfect for your relaxation time at home as everyday slipper socks. Due to the short cotton fibres used to spin the yarn used in these socks they aren’t suitable for wearing out and about in shoes but rather they are perfect to be worn relaxing at home with slippers. The coloured stitches on the toes also use indigo-dyed yarn.
“Garabou” was invented in 1877 as a way to mechanically spin Japanese cotton, which has short fibers. The yarn used in these socks is made by the one and only spinning company in Japan still spinning this yarn and is made from organic cotton. The unevenness and irregularity of the yarn makes them very comfortable to wear.
